July 20, 2010

This week's hike was on the Bartram Trail in GA from Warwoman Dell to a point beyond Big Rock and Rainey Mountain. Quite a few of our hikers were working as pole managers today on Election Day in Georgia so our group is smaller than normal.

HIKERS - Phil Brownrigg, Pam Euliss, Bill Hunt, Dick Metzgar, Vic Robson and Lynne Saporito.

TRAIL INFO. - This is a nice hike on the Georgia portion of the Bartram Trail in Rabun Co. The hike features nice mountain views around Rainey Mountain and Big Rock overlooking the Boy Scout Camp.

Total hiking distance today - 5+ miles with moderate hills - moderately easy hike. The side trail down to Big Rock requires very careful footing on the steep rocks.

Directions: Take Highway 884 East (Warwoman Road) from Clayton, GA for 5 miles or so and look for the Warwoman Dell sign on the right and turn right follow the gravel road to the end. The trail-head is up the hill to the left.

Another great day for a hike! Partly Cloudy and warm with temperatures ranging from 74 to 85 degrees F.

FLOWERS IN BLOOM: Beggar's Lice, Milkweed, Rattlesnake Plantain, Tall Bluet.

BIRDS IDENTIFIED: Cardinal, Pileated Woodpecker, Chipping Sparrow, Warblers.
